One of the sayings my mom always told me was, “Healing starts with a calm heart.” I remember hearing it most clearly when I was in elementary school. I had broken my ankle while skipping down the stairs (classic kid move, right?) I was in a lot of pain, but as soon as my mom showed up at school, she stayed calm, and told me everything would be okay. She didn’t panic, and that made all the difference for me.
When she picked me up from school and took me to the doctor, she kept reminding me to breathe and relax. Her calm presence helped me feel safe and reassured. I could tell she truly believed that the mind and body are connected in healing. It wasn’t just about getting the right treatment–it was also about maintaining a quiet mind so my body could do its part.
That day, I ended up with a cast, but I also walked away with a lesson that has stuck with me for years: healing doesn’t just happen physically. A calm heart and a peaceful mind can help you face any situation. Now, whenever life throws a curveball, I remember that moment with my mom and try to stay centered and calm, knowing that’s where the real healing begins.
